Definition of Acupuncture

During acupuncture areas of the body are pierced with fine needles along the meridian system, energy channels through which ‘chi’ or life force energy must be able to travel smoothly. It is thousands of years old and originates from the Far East.

Although used predominantly for therapeutic and anaesthetic/pain-relief purposes, acupuncture is successful in treating a wide range of illnesses including stress, anger, anxiety and other emotional conditions, as well as hereditary conditions, illnesses and infections. It is useful in maintaining overall health of the body.

Acupuncture is a popular holistic therapy in the UK and has been adapted in Western society into a medical acupuncture, which is used by physiotherapists and doctors.
